In this section:

DSC 8000 Initial Configuration

When the network information and required Ethernet interfaces are defined, you can execute the initial configuration on the DSC Platform. You are presented with the following three scenarios:

After you have completed the initial configuration procedures described in this section, if required, you can change the default Point Code Emulator (PCE) NA values to any unique value from 1 to 99. The default PCE NA settings are recommended unless they are already in use by existing configurations and the PCE support creates a conflict. The PCE supports Basic and Enhanced licensing options. A Basic license allows for one public (NA 1) and one private (NA 2) network. The Enhanced license allows for one public (NA 1) network and two private networks (NA 2 and NA 3). The Enhanced PCE is used in networks that are migrating traffic from an existing switch to a new switch. In this configuration, the existing switch and the new switch may have the same Local Point Code (LPC) and are able to transmit SS7 signaling to one another.

For more information about PCE, see the appropriate section in the SS7 Application Guide 2.

The initial configuration procedure must be executed using the Menu UI. For detailed information about the Menu UI, see Web UI and Menu UI Guide.

To execute the initial configuration procedure (DSC 8000 is only running SIGTRAN protocols)

  1. Log onto the DSC 8000.

  2. Select Set Initial Configuration, and press ENTER.

  3. Press y, and then press ENTER.

If you press y, the system automatically executes the initial configuration procedure.

After the initial configuration procedure is executed, you are prompted to decide whether EMS access should be enabled on the system that you are configuring.

For detailed information about EMS access, see Element Management System.

  4. Do one of the following.

    1. If you want to have EMS access enabled, press y, and press ENTER, and go to step c.

    2. If you do not want EMS access enabled, go to step d.

    3. If you pressed y and ENTER in step a, the system enables EMS access and executes the initial configuration procedure, and restarts the Web UI.

    4. If you do not want to enable EMS access, enter n, and press ENTER.

A message appears informing you that EMS access was not enabled (EMS snmp rw community string was not activated), and the system continues to automatically execute the initial configuration procedure and restart the Web UI.

If, at a later time, you want to enable EMS access, see Element Management System.

Tip

You have to wait approximately five minutes before you can access the Main Menu in Web UI after the system completes the execution of the initial configuration procedure.

To execute the initial configuration procedure (one DSC 8000 platform is running PCE software)

Before you execute this procedure, it is assumed that you have performed the steps in the To configure the Routing IP traffic interfaces if PCE is licensed on a standalone system.

  1. Log onto the DSC 8000.

  2. Select Set Initial Configuration, and press ENTER.

  3. Press y, and press ENTER.

You are prompted to identify the PCE Node you are configuring.

  4. Select 3 - Not as a Mated Pair, and press ENTER.

  5. The system automatically executes the initial configuration procedure.

You are prompted to decide whether EMS access should be enabled on the system that you are configuring.

For detailed information about EMS access, see Element Management System.

Tip

You have to wait approximately five minutes before you can access the Main Menu in Web UI after the system completes its execution of the initial configuration procedure.

To execute the initial configuration procedure (two DSC 8000 platforms are running PCE software)

Caution

Before you execute this procedure, it is assumed that you have configured the PCE IP interfaces on the Local and Remote Nodes, as required. For more information, see To configure the Routing IP traffic interfaces if PCE is licensed on a mated pair system.

  1. Log onto the DSC 8000.

  2. Select Set Initial Configuration, and press ENTER.

  3. Press y, and press ENTER.

You are prompted to identify the PCE Node you are configuring.

  4. Enter 1 - Mated Pair as Node 1, and press ENTER.

You are prompted to enter the IP addresses for the Routing CPU cards.

  5. Enter the required IP Addresses for Node 2 as you configured this address in To configure the Routing IP traffic interfaces if PCE is licensed on a mated pair system.

After entering each IP address, press ENTER. The system automatically executes the initial on figuration procedure.

  6. After the initial configuration procedure is completed, press ENTER.

You are prompted to decide whether EMS access should be enabled on the system that you are configuring.

For detailed information about EMS access, see Element Management System.

Caution

After you executed the initial configuration procedure for Node 1 in the mated pair configuration, you must execute this procedure for Node 2 in the mated pair configuration. Make sure to select  2 - Mated Pair as Node 2 in step 4 and enter the IP addresses you configured for Node 1 (To configure the Routing IP traffic interfaces if PCE is licensed on a mated pair system) in step 5.

Tip

You have to wait approximately five minutes before you can access the Main Menu in Web UI after the system completes its execution of the initial configuration procedure.
