About SBC 5000 Series

The Sonus Session Border Controller platforms: SBC 5100, 5110, 5200, 5210, provide enterprises and service providers with the features, performance, and reliability that they require. This versatile series of SBCs can be deployed as a Peering, Access, or enterprise SBC (e-SBC), and is tested for interoperability and performance against a variety of third party products and call flow configuration in the customer networks.

Interoperability

The SBC 5000 series software inter-operates with the following:

  • SIP/H.323 compliant IADs and IP-PBXs
  • Sonus PSX Policy Server Softswitch via SIP redirects and/or Diameter+ protocol
  • Sonus SBC 9000 through SIP call signaling and Sonus Networks MCS protocol

Compatibility with Sonus Products

This release is compatible with the latest Sonus product releases versions shown below:

ePSX (OVA)

FileUsage
ePSX-V09.01.01R000.ova

ePSX installation package on SBC 5000 series.

ePSX installation is not supported on SBC 5100.

Prior to installing ePSX, ensure its management network addresses belong to the same subnet as the corresponding SBC interfaces. The default route for ePSX is assigned the same gateway address as the gateway for the SBC mgt0 address, and it must be compatible with the ePSX mgt0 address. Pay particular attention to the network prefixes, subnet masks and IP addresses themselves.

The ePSX installation package is not available in the standard SBC package. It is provided separately.

Before installing a Replica ePSX on the SBC, accomplish the following:

  • Install/upgrade PSX Master with the correct version.
  • Ensure that PSX Master is runningV09.01.01R000 version.

To upgrade from ERE to ePSX, contact Sonus Technical Assistance Center (TAC).

During an SBC upgrade process, the SonusDB version may not get upgraded and this will not have any functional impact.

Software Bundles

Download the required software bundles from the Customer Portal to your PC:

During the SBC upgrade process, an automatic check is performed to determine if the SonusDB software requires upgrading. Because of this, the SonusDB version may not always increment with an SBC upgrade.

New Features

SBX-3870 IPTG Authentication

This feature allows SBC to handle challenges on behalf of IP Peer when IP peer is not capable of handling challenges. This functionality is accomplished with the addition of the authentication configurable to the ingress IP Peer and/or ingress Trunk Groups as described in IP Trunk Group Authentication.

Alarm Changes

Two new alarms are added as an enhancement for this feature:

  • sonusSbxTgAuthenticationFailedNotification

  • sonusSbxTgAuthenticationClearNotification

MIB Changes

The following objects are added to SONUS-SBX-TRAP-MIB:

  • sonusSbxTgAuthenticationFailedNotificatio
  • sonusSbxTgAuthenticationClearNotification

CDR Changes

The following cause codes are added in this release:

IDDefinition
176

CPC_DISC_TG_AUTH_FAIL

The SBC may release the call with this error code, if the request with credentials is rejected with non 401/407. This cause code is mapped to SIP error cause code of 403. This cause code can be configured to map to any SIP error cause.

177

CPC_DISC_TG_AUTH_FAIL_401_407

If the request with credentials is rejected with non 401/407, the call is rejected with new internal cause code. This cause code can be mapped to any SIP error cause code. By default, it is mapped to SIP cause code 403. This cause code can be configured to map to any SIP error cause.

Mapping CPC to SIP cause codes is not permitted for out-of-dialog or relay messages.

For more information, refer to sipTrunkGroup signaling (CLI), zone ipPeer (CLI), Feature Control Profile (EMA), Egress IP Attributes (SIP), sonusSbxTgAuthenticationFailedNotificationsonusSbxTgAuthenticationClearNotification, Call Termination Reason Codes, and Call Disconnect Code Mapping.

Features Ported from Previous Releases

The following feature is ported from earlier releases:

SBX-28628 New flag to handle SBC sending messages to the correct SIP Server

SBX-28628 introduces a new flag, usePreviousLearnedIpAddress, to ensure that the new request mid-dialog is passed to the previously learned IP address before performing any SRV DNS query.

CLI Changes

Command Syntax

The command syntax to view the newly introduced flag is shown below.

set addressContext <name> zone <name> sipTrunkGroup <name> services usePreviousLearnedIpAddress <disabled | enabled>
Command Parameters
ParameterDefaultDescription
usePreviousLearnedIpAddress

disabled

Enable the flag to send new SIP requests mid-dialog to the previously-learned IP address before performing any SRV DNS query.

The previously-learned IP address is updated in the following cases:

  1. SBC receives an INVITE from the peer.
  2. SBC receives re-INVITE from the peer.
  3. SBC receives 200 OK response to INVITE sent.
  4. SBC receives 200 OK response to re-INVITE sent.

If a time-out occurs on requests sent to previously-learned Active IP address mid-dialog, a SRV DNS look up is performed.

EMA Changes

The "Use Previous Learned Ip Address" is added to EMA Navigator's Address Context > Zone > Sip Trunk Group > Services object.

Security Update

Sonus has been diligently working to assess the impact of the serious "ghost" vulnerability in the glibc library in the wake of the disclosure of CVE-2015-0235.

In our investigation, we have determined that several Sonus products and release versions are potentially affected by this vulnerability. Please refer to the article Glibc GHOST vulnerability CVE-2015-0235 located on Latest Support News of the Support portal for the latest available information and Sonus’ recommended course of action. Check back here regularly for updates.

The WBA "Warning-15-00021231" is associated with Glibc GHOST vulnerability CVE-2015-0235. To view WBA, login to Salesforce Customer Portal, select the Solutions tab and search for Warning-15-00021231.

EMA Security Enhancement

The URL pattern covering the SBC Web app is updated to ensure that all privileged resources (including servlets) require authentication.

Platform Manager Security Enhancements

This release introduces the following security enhancements for the SBC platform:

  • Authenticated sessions now have the following characteristics:
    • Cookie only sessions
    • SSL only sessions
    • HTTP only sessions
  • Authentication:
    • New session ID is generated on every authentication event.
    • Authentication is introduced for PHP scripts that lack native authentication by design.
  • Input Sanitization:
    • PHP methods have been applied to suitably sanitize input variables ($_POST/$_GET) as appropriate.
  • The download process is enhanced to reject unbounded paths, file names, and directory traversal attempts.
  • The PM Upgrade button is removed.
  • Session Monitor – The sessionMonitor function is introduced to improve the UI experience for terminated sessions. The sessionMonitor function redirects terminated sessions to the index.
