This article describes how to configure an Application Solution Module (ASM) on a Sonus SBC 1000/2000 as an OCS2007 R2 Mediation Server deployable in a PSTN - Sonus SBC 1000/2000 - Microsoft Office Communication Server 2007 R2 topology. This solution provides you with an integrated gateway and mediation server that resides between the PSTN and the OCS servers on the enterprise network:

Topology

High-Level Configuration Overview

For this particular deployment, we'll need to configure three devices:

  1. Application Solution Module (ASM)
  2. The OCS Server
  3. The Sonus SBC 1000/2000 Gateway

Below is an outline of each device's high-level configuration steps:

#ASM Tasks

  1. Load a New ASM image without the Lync SBA.
(tick) For Lync SBA Deployments, please see Deploying the Survivable Branch Appliance
  2. Re-initialize the ASM.
  3. Configure the ASM and DNS IP Addresses
  4. Enable Remote Desktop connectivity.

#OCS Tasks

  1. Connect to the ASM using Remote Desktop.
  2. Set the host name and join the OCS domain.
  3. Add the Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) role to enable AD Domain Controller tools along with:
    • .Net Framework 3.5 SP1
    • Desktop Experience
    • Telnet Cli
  4. Update Windows.
  5. Install Visual C++ Redistributable.
  6. Install the Mediation Server application.

#Sonus SBC 1000/2000 Gateway Tasks

Asusming that Sonus SBC 1000/2000 gateway's IP address, host name information is already configured on the unit, the following steps should be performed to integrate the Sonus SBC 1000/2000 gateway with Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 Mediation Server:

  1. Ensure to have the necessary license on the Sonus SBC 1000/2000
  2. Run the OCS 2007 Setup task
  3. Connect the PRI cable to the relevant ISDN port to allow PSTN - Sonus SBC 1000/2000 connection

ASM Tasks

Load ASM Image from USB

  1. Download the latest ASM image (without SBA) from the Sonus SBC 1000-2000 Download Center into a USB flash drive as shown below:
(info) For the details please refer to Updating the ASM Recovery Partition.

  2. Insert the prepared flash drive into one of the ASM USB ports of the Sonus SBC 1000/2000 system
  3. Launch WebUI and browse to > Task (tab) > Application Solution Module (in left pane) > Load ASM Image from USB and hit Apply (in right pane)

  4. Upon task completion, follow the instructions on the display and:
    • Unplug the external USB from system
    • Follow the next step to re-initialize the ASM for new image to take effect

Re-initializing ASM

  1. In the WebUI, click the Tasks tab.
  2. In the left navigation pane, under the Application Solution Module, click Shut Down/Reset/Reboot.
  3. Select Re-initialize ASMfrom the dropdown menu and hit Apply:

  4. Upon completion, verify that the ASM IP address is configured and Remote Desktop is enabled as shown below:

  5. Ensure to change the ASM admin password to something you'll remember because the next steps will require you to login remotely to ASM for the Mediation Server installation:

OCS Tasks

Domain Join

As part of the Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 deployment requirements, every OCS Server must be domain joined. For further details about the OCS 2007 R2 deployment, please refer to Microsoft Documents.

  1. To join to domain, Remote Desktop to the ASM:

  2. Change the host name and join to OCS domain:

  3. Restart the ASM as prompted after successful join to domain as shown below:

Mediation Server Prerequisites

Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 Mediation Server installation requires Several Roles and Features installation on the server PC. For further details, please refer to Microsoft Documents.

  1. Remote Desktop to the ASM using the OCS installer privileges.
Note: In this example we are using domain administrator account.
  2. Install the Active Directory Domain Services (ADDS) roleusing the Server Manager as shown below:

  3. Upon completion, restart the ASM as prompted and relogin using the OCS installer privileges once again.
  4. Run Windows Update until everything is updated.

  5. Up on completion, restart the ASM as prompted and relogin using the OCS installer privileges.
  6. Download Visual C++ Redistributable 2008 (x64) from MS downloadsand install it.

OCS 2007 R2 Mediation Server installation requires Visual C++ Redistributable 2008 already installed before the Mediation Server deployment. As a matter of fact, Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 installation CD contains the 32 bit executable in its support folder, and this version is a sufficient prerequisite on Windows 2003 R2 and Windows 2008 R2 Operating Systems. However, Sonus SBC 1000/2000 ASM System Release 2.0 base image is Windows 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1; and if the 32 bit version of the VC++ Redistributable 2008 is installed on Windows 2008 R2 with Service Pack 1, the Mediation Server bits installation attempt fails since the SP 1 does further check on the prerequisites and expects the 64 bit VC++ 2008 Redistrituble package installed.

Mediation Server Installation

  1. Run Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 Deployment Wizard
  2. Install and Run the the following steps in Enterprise Edition > Other Server Roles > Mediation Server in the wizard:
    • Step 1: Install files for Mediation Server
    • Step 2: Activate Mediation Server
    • Step 4: Configure Certificates

OCS Voice Properties Configuration

On the OCS Front End Server:

  1. Login with OCS administrator privileges
  2. Launch Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 configuration snap-in:

  3. Launch Voice Properties as shown below:

  4. Add a new Location Profileas shown below with desired number normalization:

  5. Add a new Routeand ensure to have the correct Mediation Server selected in the Gateways field, along with the other marked fields as shown below:

  6. Close the Voice Properties and stop & start the Front End Server

Mediation Server Configuration

On the OCS Front End Server:
