VX acts as a gateway between Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) or Private Branch Exchange (PBX) and the Microsoft Office Communication server network. It provides the ability for Unified Communications users to collaborate with people outside the Unified Communications network. VX connects to the Unified Communications network via the Mediation server role of Microsoft Office Communication Server.
