To prepare for an initial configuration, you should list user names/passwords and chart call-routing detail in worksheets or site records.

User Names / Passwords

The user name and password for the user logged into the VX system.

Call Routing Detail

  • IP Address of the VX node assigned in the startup script.
  • Preferred DNS Address: The IP address of the Domain Name Server for the enterprise network in which you are installing the Unified Communications Gateway. Enter this address in standard dotted decimal form. For example: 192.168.173.100.
  • Alternate DNS Address: The IP address of a DNS server that will be used if the preferred server is not available.
  • Primary Mediation Server: The IP address (standard dotted decimal notation form) or the fully qualified domain name of the Primary Mediation Server which will be used in the configuration.
  • Secondary Mediation Server:The IP address (standard dotted decimal notation form) or the fully qualified domain name of the Secondary Mediation Server which will be used in the configuration when the Primary Mediation Server is not available.
  • Line Type: Select the line type of the PBX or PSTN being connected to from the drop down list. Your options are T1 or E1.
  • ISDN Protocol: Select the ISDN protocol being using in your configuration to connect to the PBX or PSTN.
  • Country Code: The telephony code assigned to the node. For Example: US=1
  • PBX Prefix: The prefix to form the abbreviated PBX number back into an E.164 telephony number. For example: A prefix of 1510574 will form an extension number of 2370 into 510 574 2370. This is not required if the VX is going to be used to connect directly to the PSTN.
